The map

Use the organisation-wide map to find work and check airspace, and the project and job Spatial maps to work on one site.

There are two map surfaces and they do different jobs. The map at /mapMap in the sidebar — is organisation-wide: every project, plus airspace, NOTAMs and reference data. The Spatial tab on a project or job is the editor: one site, with a layers rail and an inspector.

Before you start

The Live Vehicles layer on /map needs the View vehicle tracking permission and the vehicle_tracking plan feature. On the project and job Spatial maps the same layer is limited to organisation admins. When it is unavailable the toggle is simply absent — there is no upgrade prompt.

Steps

  1. Open the map and find a project

    Go to /map. The panel top-left is Projects, with Search projects… and the segments All, Active, Completed and Archived. Clicking a row flies the map to that project. Restricted sites carry a Restricted airspace chip in their marker popup.

  2. Turn on the reference layers

    The button top-right is Map display controls; it opens the MAP DISPLAY panel. Turn on Airspace to get its two children, Airspace Restrictions and UK NOTAMs.

  3. Narrow the airspace to what matters

    Under Airspace Restrictions, use Classes to pick from Prohibited, Restricted and Danger, and the altitude filter for ≤ 500ft, ≤ 5,000ft or ≤ 50,000ft. Under UK NOTAMs, use Categories to choose from thirteen groups including Restrictions, Warnings, Airspace Organisation and Navigation Facilities, plus a radius filter from ≤ 5 NM up to All and a height filter from ≤ 500ft to ≤ 50,000ft. Show All selects everything in a list at once.

  4. Add the ground context

    Below the airspace block, Context layers groups reference data into Infrastructure, Environmental and POIs & Land. Turn on what the site needs — Rail tracks, Power lines, Pylons & towers, Paths & rights of way, Special Areas of Conservation, SSSI / ASSI, Education, Healthcare, Emergency services and the rest. The coloured swatch beside each name is the legend.

  5. Change the basemap

    Bottom-left is the basemap button, showing the current choice — for example Basemap: Streets. It opens BASEMAP with Light, Streets, Satellite, Outdoors and Dark. The organisation map opens on Streets.

  6. Measure something

    The map toolbar carries three measuring tools: Measure distance, Measure area and Measure radius. Results come back as a toast. Measurements on /map are session-only — nothing is saved. A measured shape offers Make flight area, which starts a flight area from it.

Options

The Spatial layers rail

Open a project or job and select Spatial. The left-hand rail is headed Layers and can be folded away with Hide layers. Selecting a row opens the inspector over the right edge of the map; nothing is selected, nothing covers the map.

A project’s rail holds four groups: Flight areas, Orthophotos, Control points and Annotations.

A job’s rail holds more, because a job carries survey data the project does not:

  • Flight areas — borrowed from the project or created here.
  • Orthophotos — pulled from the project or uploaded.
  • Control points — the project’s sets.
  • Surveys — one row per imported survey, added with Import survey. A survey whose CRS would not resolve is labelled no CRS rather than a point count, because it is drawn nowhere.
  • Survey points — pure display filters, one per class: Topo, Stakeout, Control, GCP and Aero, each with a colour dot and a count, plus RTK baselines, which draws the rover-to-base lines. This group only appears once there is a survey to filter.
  • Annotations — the job’s own groups.
  • Project annotations — the project’s groups, inherited read-only.

Every group has a master switch that hides or reveals all its rows at once, and every row has its own Show layer / Hide layer eye.

Map controls on the Spatial tabs

The project and job maps carry the same Map display controls button, but a shorter list: Airspace with Airspace Restrictions and UK NOTAMs, Live Vehicles for organisation admins, and 3D Terrain. There are no context layers and no project list here — this map is about one site.

The toolbar strip above the map carries the CRS chip. The annotation toolbar sits under the map controls; see Annotations.

Read a NOTAM or airspace area

Clicking into the airspace data opens the info panel with two tabs, NOTAMs and Airspace. A NOTAM shows StatusRestriction, Not yet active or Active — plus Valid, Schedule, Altitude and Radius. An airspace area shows Class, Lower and Upper. Permanent items read PERMANENT; surface-level lower limits read SFC.

What happens next

The stats bar along the bottom of /map counts projects, jobs, cancelled jobs and vehicles, and shows when the NOTAM data next refreshes. Vehicle markers update every ten seconds, are labelled with the vehicle alias, and rotate to their heading; there is no click popup on them.

Troubleshooting

Live Vehicles is missing on /map. You lack View vehicle tracking, or the plan does not include vehicle tracking.

Vehicles report as offline. The message is Live vehicle tracking is offline — please contact your site administrator to reconnect ABAX. The integration needs reconnecting; nothing on the map will fix it.

A survey draws nothing. Its row will say no CRS. The survey’s coordinate system could not be resolved against the project — see Coordinates and control points.
